The Sonoma County Backroad Challenge is an annual fundraising project of the Petaluma Sunrise Foundation. The Petaluma Sunrise Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Charitable Foundation, was established in 2010 by the Rotary Club of Petaluma Sunrise. Your participation in the Backroad Challenge as a rider, sponsor, volunteer or vendor allows us to continue to do great things for the community and internationally.

The Routes

See All RoutesThe course routes for the May 16, 2015 ride have now been finalized by the course committee.  The committee considered road safety, accessibility to rest stations, and continuity in the ride in finalizing these routes.  As such, it was decided that the routes will run counter-clockwise as they did at our first Backroad Challenge in 2011. This configuration will be safe, make rest stations much more accessible, and will be more rider friendly when considering climbs, wind, and other factors.  We are sure you will find improvement in the routes over the clockwise configuration used in 2012 and 2013. We provide more specific information for each route on the Routes page.
